Dr. Michael Yabsley is an Associate Professor of Wildlife Diseases at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia, where he is active in teaching parasitology, wildlife diseases, and wildlife techniques. He manages a diverse research program that focuses on the natural history of zoonotic parasites and wildlife diseases with primary interests in Baylisascaris procyonis, Trypanosoma cruzi, avian hemoparasites, and tick-borne pathogens. He earned his BS (Biology and Wildlife Ecology) and MS (Zoology-Parasitology) from Clemson University and a PhD (Veterinary Parasitology) from the University of Georgia. He is a past-president of the Southeastern Society of Parasitologists and the Georgia Chapter of the Wildlife Society and currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife. In 2012, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Entomology Society. Since 2000, Dr. Yabsley has authored or coauthored over 150 publications on animal and human parasites and other pathogens. He is also passionate about teaching and mentoring and has served as a research mentor for 26 graduate, 15 veterinary, 32 undergraduate, and two high school students. At UGA, he has been recognized with three teaching and mentoring awards.
