Kathryn Junkins Sarpong, DVM, DABVP practices small animal medicine in Dallas, Texas. She is a 2001 graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a rotating small animal internship with Dr. Stephen Ettinger in Los Angeles. Before co-founding Metro Paws Animal Hospital in 2006, Dr. Sarpong spent several years practicing emergency medicine. Metro Paws Animal Hospital currently includes three locations and 15 doctors. Her daily tasks include a heavy caseload of medicine and surgery, mentoring other veterinarians on staff, and the business essentials of practice.
In 2011 Dr. Sarpong achieved board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine and Feline). In 2017, she authored a study on the survival of canine parvovirus published in the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association. She is 2021-2022 President of the Veterinary Leadership Group for Innovative Petcare (a group of 67 small animal practices). She previously served as Treasurer and then President of the Emergency Animal Clinic Inc. and is a member of the Dallas County VMA, Texas VMA, AVMA, AAFP, AHS.
Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Sarpong worked as a chemical engineer on the team developing a novel HIV medication for Merck &Co., Inc.
When not working, Dr. Sarpong enjoys sports and finding adventures with her family which includes 2 spirited daughters, a fun-loving husband, two goofy dogs, and a rotation of foster animals.
